Today, I shine a spotlight on 13 of these notable transactions involving NYC startups that were acquired in during 2017. I have included the acquiree, the acquirer, transaction amount (when available), as well as investors and total equity funding raised by the target.

PureWow
PureWow, the digital media company focused on women’s lifestyle content, was acquired by Vayner Media for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2010 by Ryan Harwood, PureWow had raised $2.5M in reported funding over one round from investors that include Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Wavemaker Partners, Pritzker Group Venture Capital, Vayner/RSE, Galvanize Ventures 1, New York Venture Partners, Melo7 Tech Partners LLC, Pilot Group, Matthew Luckett, and Miroma Ventures.
Livestream
Livestream, the live video-streaming platform, was acquired by Vimeo for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2007 by Dayananda Nanjundappa, Mark Kornfilt, Max Haot, and Phil Worthington, Livestream had raised $14.7M in funding over four rounds. Livestream was backed by Gannett.
Body Labs
Amazon acquired Body Labs, the NYC startup that uses 3D imaging to model the body for various purposes such as determining fit. While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, it is has been speculated that the purchase price was between $50-70M.
Founded in 2013 by Alex Weiss, Bill O’Farrell, Eric Rachlin, and Michael Black, Body Labs had raised $13.2M over two rounds of funding from investors that included Intel Capital, FirstMark, New York Angels, Osage University Partners, Catalus Capital, Bill O’Farrell, Michael Black, Alex Weiss, Eric Rachlin, and Max Planck Innovation.
Flatiron School
Flatiron School, the NYC-based coding school, founded in 2012 by Adam Enbar and Avi Flobaum was acquired by coworking behemoth WeWork. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Prior to the acquisition, Flatiron School had raised $14.5M in funding over two rounds. Backers of the company include Matrix Partners, CRV, BoxGroup, and Thrive Capital.
Parcel
Parcel, the last-mile delivery company, founded in 2013 by Jesse Kaplan was acquired by Walmart. Terms of the deals were not disclosed although a Walmart representative mentioned in a blog post that this acquisition was less in value than recent acquisitions (Jet $3.3B, Bonobos $310M).
Prior to the acquisition, Parcel, had raised $1.98M in funding over two rounds. Backers of the company include Archangel, Galvanize Ventures, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Interplay Ventures, Kevin W. Tung, Liberty City Ventures, and Techstars Ventures.
Mashable
Mashable, the online publishers focused on tech and digital media, was acquired for $50M by Ziff Davis. Founded in 2005 by Peter Cashmore, Mashable had raised $46M in funding over three rounds and was backed by investors that included Social Starts, Time Warner Investments, Updata Partners, Grape Arbor VC, New Markets Venture Partners, Michael Lazerow, You & Mr Jones Brandtech Ventures, Turner Broadcasting, Elio Sceti, Kass Lazerow, and Tribune Digital Ventures.
Meetup
Meetup, the NYC-based events platform, founded in 2002 by Brendan McGovern, Matt Meeker, Peter Kamali, and Scott Heiferman was acquired by coworking behemoth WeWork. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but it has been speculated that the acquisition price was $200M.
Prior to the acquisition, Meetup, had raised $18.3M in reported funding over five rounds. Backers of the company include Click Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ), eBay, Ev Williams, Omidyar Network, Partners, Scott Belsky, Tony Hsieh, and Union Square Ventures.
Plated
Plated, the meal kit company, founded in 2012 by Nick Taranto and Josh Hix was acquired by super market behemoth Albertsons. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Prior to the acquisition, Plated, a Techstars graduate, had raised $56.4M in funding over eight rounds. Backers of the company include Alain Bankier, Andrew McCollum, ff Venture Capital, Formation 8, Founder Collective, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Greycroft Partners, Kevin Colleran, Kite Ventures, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, O’Leary Ventures, Paige Craig, Right Side Capital Management, Slow Ventures, Solon Mack Capital, Techstars, and Valley Oak Investments.
Juno
Juno, the ride sharing app, was acquired by Gett for $200M. Founded by Igor Magazinnik and Talmon Marco in 2015, Juno is reported to have raised close to $80M in funding.
Bonobos
Bonobos, the e-commerce clothing brand founded in 2007 by Andy Dunn and Brian Spaly, was acquired by Walmart for $310M. Bonobos had raised $127.65M in funding, over 7 rounds, with investors that include Accel Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Melo7 Tech Partners, and Forerunner Ventures.
Trello
Trello, the project management tool, was acquired by Atlassian for $425M. Founded by Joel Spolsky and Michael Pryor in 2011, the company had raised a total of $10.34M in a single round of funding from investors that include
Moat
Moat, the search engine for advertisements, was acquired by Oracle for a reported $850M. Founded by Jonah Goodhart, Michael Walrath, and Noah Goodhart in 2010, Moat had raised $67.5M over four funding rounds from investors that included SV Angel, First Round Capital, Mayfield Fund, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Founders Fund, Founder Collective, SoftBank Capital, Insight Venture Partners, Advancit Capital, Third Kind Venture Capital, Lead Edge Capital, AFSquare, MHS Capital, Bowery Capital, and Vast Ventures.
Floored
Floored, the 3D visual software platform for use in real estate applications, was acquired by CBRE. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Prior the acquisition, Floored had raised $6.36M in funding over two rounds. Founded in 2012 by Dave Eisenberg, Dustin Byrne, and Judy He, Floored was backed by investors that included Accel Partners, RRE Ventures, Greycroft, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Red Swan Ventures, Two Sigma Ventures, Brooklyn Bridge Ventures, Thomas Lehrman, and David Vivero.
