The AlleyWatch January 2023 New York Venture Capital Funding Report

Startup funding in New York starting to show signs of life with more than $1.4B raised across 76 deals, bucking national trends; exceptionally strong activity at the Series A level with late-stage activity also resuming. New York accounted for more than 25% of all national deals as well as 21% of total capital invested. Aggregate statistics for all NYC funding deals by stage of funding (Early, Series A, Series B, and Late) including mention of notable rounds for January 2023.

Today, I take a look at the state of venture capital and early-stage funding for January 2023 in New York. Analyzing some publicly available data from our friends at CrunchBase, we break down the aggregate statistics for all funding deals by stage of funding (Early-stage [Pre-Seed, Seed], Series A, Series B, and Late Stage [Series C+]) including mention of notable rounds.  In order to maintain a focus on tech-enabled startups, this analysis does not include rounds for biotech, real estate, lending startups as well as debt financings.
