BuzzFeed Secures $50M from Andreessen Horowitz

So, you’re BuzzFeed and you’ve just landed a fresh $50 million (their Series E) from Andreessen Horowitz on an $850M valuation. What’s next?

The listicle and short-form video publisher plans to expand into mid-length and long-form pieces, through BuzzFeed Motion Pictures.

Founded in 2006 by Huffington Post co-founder Jonah Peretti (he’s co-founder and CEO), BuzzFeed is one of the top 10 most-visited news and information sites in the US.

Startup Grind NYC Hosts Stuart Wall (Signpost)

Our friends Peter Crysdale and Joshua Ness from Startup Grind NYC hosted a fireside chat with Stuart Wall, founder and CEO of Signpost, the cloud based marketing solution for local business owners.

Mobile publishing startup Onswipe acquired by Beanstock

Yes, good timing. Fortune reported last week that Techstars alum Onswipe was on the verge of being acquire and cited a private note from CEO Jonty Kelt, who said that this was a “soft landing” that would provide no return for the company’s investors. It was a cash and stock deal and investors Spark Capital said that they would be getting stock as part of the deal. Yeah, ok.

Our friends at Startup Institute, the startup career accelerator, held their Talent Expo, showcasing the graduates from their latest class at Goodwin Proctor.

Online Platform for Raising Funding Raises $11 M in Funding 

Axial, an online platform for private company financings, has raised $11 million in Series B funding, with Comcast Ventures leading the round, and previous investors Redpoint Ventures, First Round Capital and individual investors participating.

Yes, there’s even a social network for investors and dealmakers. This one paid off!
