There’s a reason why game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune are so popular; everyone loves the thrill of high intensity mental competition. But while it’s fun to watch the action from a distance, only one app is giving you the chance to play. FleetWit, the mobile app that pays out real money for winning trivia and puzzle games, is your chance to join the action. With some users taking home thousands of dollars, this is your opportunity to show off your unique talents and showcase your intelligence. FleetWit is played by some of the top trivia minds and will keep your head sharp.
AlleyWatch chatted with CEO and cofounder David Metz about the company and how they are making your dream a reality.
Tell us about FleetWit.
FleetWit is the first and only company that uses skill gaming to give users a chance to win real money by playing trivia and puzzles. We have some of the top trivia minds in the world (Ken Jennings, Tony Hightower, Alex Jacob, etc) playing on our site daily.
How is FleetWit different?
For the first time ever, people can win money by just being smart and having a ton of knowledge.
What market are you attacking and how big is it?
The trivia market is huge (Jeopardy, Trivia Pursuit, QuizUp). We appeal to the top tier of trivia players who could make a living by competing on FleetWit.
What is the business model?
Our users pay entry fees to participate in trivia tournaments, we take a % of those fees.
I love trivia and being competitive! I’ve hosted trivia, created a trivia board game and love learning new things. Most skill-based platforms revolve around cards and sports, I felt it was time to reward people for their knowledge in other areas.
From your data, what is the highest earnings potential for a user of your app?
Last month a user made over $5,000. We expect users to be making over $20,000 a month by the end of the year.
What are the milestones that you plan to achieve within six months?
We expect to be profitable in the next 3 months and to be close to 500,000 users by the end of the year.
What is the one piece of startup advice that you never got?
A lot! We essentially created this industry, so there wasn’t really a case study we could go off of. It’s been a lot of trial and error. We’ve made a lot of mistakes, but we learn quickly and move on.
If you could be put in touch with anyone in the New York community who would it be and why?
Jimmy Fallon, for sure. He is a huge gamer and loves competition. I would love to get his thoughts on FleetWit.
Why did you launch in New York?
We live here, love it here and want FleetWit to be the next big NYC company.
What’s your favorite restaurant in the city?
Lupa in Greenwich Village, never been disappointed.
