Whether you are keeping with your New Years resolutions or not, everyone needs more time at the gym. But when reality catches up and you stop going, it’s almost always due to its inconvenience. With TRN, there is no inconvenience. TRN goes out of their way to work with your schedule and meet you wherever you want. Whether it is a traditional workout or a yoga or kickboxing session TRN is what you need.

Cofounder Greg Peters sat down with AlleyWatch to discuss the turn of events that led to the company as well as the need in our market for TRN.

Tell us about the product or service.

TRN provides on-demand personal training services to clients who expect the best. Through the app, users can book one-on-one sessions with training specialists across four disciplines: General Training, Yoga, Pilates and Swimming. TRN fits directly into your lifestyle at home, work or outdoors.

How is it different?

All of our Specialists are vetted through an extensive 5-step process including writing samples, interviews, auditions and background checks.  You know you are getting a workout from a true professional.  We also keep track of all your sessions so you have historical information about your workouts.

What market are you attacking and how big is it?

We are looking at the luxury fitness market right now in NYC and we will be expanding to Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C and the Hamptons over the summer.

What is the business model?

The business model is a member downloads the app, chooses their building, and then chooses a workout – General Training, Yoga, Pilates or Swimming.  From there, they pick a day and time and available Specialists populate the app.  The member can watch a video of the Specialist and read a full bio so they get a strong feel of who will be working with them.

What inspired the business?

TRN was created by Greg Peters and Pat Manocchia, partners and trainers at the renowned LA PALESTRA Center for Preventative Medicine in New York City, which Pat founded in 1994.  The inspiration was taking 20 years of programming and adding technology to offer it to a wider audience.

Why are you building yet another fitness app?

TRN was the first to bring technology to the user, so they can exercise on their time and at their location of choice.  No more excuses why they cannot workout.

What are the milestones that you plan to achieve within six months?

Expand our members and grow a very strong community for all of our specialists.  We want them to feel they are part of the growth of TRN as well.

What is the one piece of startup advice that you never got?

How quickly you need to make decisions and possibly pivot.  Your initial thoughts of how things will run are rarely accurate.  But that’s why a startup is so exciting.

If you could be put in touch with anyone in the New York community who would it be?

Mike Bloomberg – Because he is one of the most respected leaders and businessmen in the world

Why did you launch in New York?

We have been working in the health and fitness industry for 20 years with our roots right here in NYC

What’s your favorite restaurant in the city?

Palma
