Nestie, which takes away the broker from renting an apt, has raised a Seed round of funding from undisclosed investors. This is founders Vianney Brandicourt and Julia Ramsey first round of funding.

Waylens, the company that is capturing your driving adventures, has announced a $2.2M Venture from IDG Capital Partners and E14 Fund. This is CEO Haowei Zhang’s first funding round for his company.

Mark Ecko’s online magazine, Complex, has raised $21M led by Hearst Ventures.

Business Insider, the business news publication, is close to being acquired by German media conglomerate Axel Springer for $560M.

Fresco News, the global news outlet, has raised their second Seed round with $1.2M coming from 1517 Fund, Fresco Capital, Jonathan Miller, Laurel Touby, Mike Jones, Reese Schonfeld, Ross Levinsohn, and Social Starts.

BillGuard, the company that ensures financial security, has just been acquired by Prosper for an undisclosed amount. Founders Yaron Samid and Raphael Ouzan had raised $16.5M before the acquisition.

UniqueSound, the platform to showcase your musical ability, has raised a Seed round of $1M from Dennis Hennequin, Felix Capital, Foundry Group, Frederic Montagnon, Isai and Tobias Peggs.

Cover, the app that lets you pay restaurant bills via your mobile device, has been acquired by Velocity for an undisclosed amount. Founders Mark Egerman and Andrew Cove had two rounds of funding prior to selling their company.

Quirky, the platform for inventors, has declared bankruptcy. The company had raised $185.3M across 8 rounds since its founding in 2009.

Splash, the event management platform has announced that it is has now incorporated SalesForce into its platform, allowing event organizers to track the economics for an event through the platform.

Dataminr, the information-discovery startup announced the hiring Julio Pekarovic as its CFO. Pekarovic is a former VP of Finance at Google. Could this mean a liquidity event is in the horizon for Dataminr, which has raised a total of $179.6M across 5 rounds including a $130M Series D earlier in the year.

NYC Media Lab has announced the launch of NYC Media Lab Combine, a new program to commercialize emerging media technologies from faculty and students at the city’s universities. The program will draw upong a grant pool of $250,000 to fund 5-10 startups per year with an initial amount of $25,000.

NYC startup Flashtalking has announced the acquisition of Hamburg-based, Device9, an adtech solution that tracks users independent of cookies.
