95% of planned development tasks are not properly assessed for security risk. Addressing security early in the design phase is far more cost-effective than fixing vulnerabilities later. Retrofitting security measures into existing software can be complex and expensive. Prime Security is an AI-powered platform that integrates security directly in the design phase of software development. By detecting, prioritizing, and mitigating security risks at the initial stages of development, the platform leads to improved architecture as data flows, access controls, and system interactions are scrutinized from the onset, keeping security and engineering teams on the same page. With Prime Security, every engineering task prompts an automated security review that identifies and prioritizes risks while generating security requirements to mitigate such risks based on internal policies or industry frameworks.
AlleyWatch caught up with Prime Security CEO and Cofounder Michael Nov to learn more about the inspiration for the business, the company’s strategic plans, recent round of funding, and much, much more…
Who were your investors and how much did you raise?
We recently completed a seed funding round, raising $6M. The round was led by Foundation Capital with participation from Flybridge Capital Partners. We also had the privilege of gaining support from several prominent angel investors, including Sam Gutmann, Adrian Kunzle, Dimitri Sirota, Michael Callahan, and Assaf Keren. The funding will be used to accelerate research and development and to expand sales and engineering teams in our Tel-Aviv and New York offices.
Tell us about the product or service that Prime Security offers.
Prime Security offers an AI-powered solution that integrates security into the design phase of software development. Our platform proactively identifies security and compliance risks early on, providing detailed context interpretations and tailored risk mitigation recommendations. This not only secures the software development lifecycle (SDLC) but also enhances product velocity by addressing security concerns before they become more costly issues later in the process.
What inspired the start of Prime Security?
Prime Security was born from a shared frustration we faced as Technical and Security leaders: the friction between security and engineering teams was constantly slowing down product velocity and innovation. While many tools secure the SDLC during coding, the design stage—the earliest and most impactful phase—remained manual and time-consuming. The absence of scalable tools to monitor and mitigate risks during the design stage of development was a significant gap. With advancements in Generative AI, we saw an opportunity to create a solution that addresses these challenges effectively.
How is Prime Security different?
Prime Security’s differentiation lies in its exceptional team and innovative product approach. Our team is composed of seasoned professionals with extensive backgrounds in security and AI, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the table.
Beyond that, we believe that our product approach is very unique and pragmatic compared to the others in the industry. Our product strategy centers on Jira tickets rather than traditional long-form documents. This Jira-centric design allows for a structured and coherent development planning process, enabling granular risk identification and tailored recommendations.
What market does Prime Security target and how big is it?
We target enterprises ranging from mid-market to large organizations with existing application security or product security teams. Our solution is applicable across industries and is particularly beneficial for organizations in the finance and technology sectors. The broader market for cybersecurity solutions is vast, with increasing demand for integrated security measures across all stages of development.
