Today, I take a look at the state of venture capital and angel funding during the month of September in New York. Analyzing some publicly available data from our friends at CrunchBase, we break down the aggregate statistics for all funding deals by stage of funding (Seed, Series A, Series B, and Series C+) including mention of notable rounds.
30 Second Takeaway:
Coming off two spectacular months for startup funding in NYC, reality began to set in in October. As $2T in wealth disappeared from the equities markets in October, total NYC startup funding was down nearly 60% from September levels. Weakness was seen across all stages with particular weakness at the late stages and Series B with activity very sparse and no mega deals to speak of. The national market remained strong and New York’s share of national funding dropped to historically low levels with the city only accounting for less than 7% of all national funding.
