Afora, the alternative to dental insurance, has been acquired by quip, the NYC startup focused on oral health. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. “With over 100 million Americans without any dental coverage at all, and many with coverage that doesn’t incentivize making the most of your covered preventative care, we feel it is essential to offer an alternative that can help more people visit the dentist more often, for less,” remarked Simon Enever, CEO and cofounder of quip on the transaction.
Quip is also announcing the launch of an oral healthcare-focused venture studio and Afora is the first company in the newly launched quip Labs. Projects within quip’s venture studio will focus on accelerating early stage ventures, consulting pre-launch companies, incubating internal and external initiatives, and providing support to dental students through scholarships and other initiatives..
