Suffering from chronic pain is an unpleasant experience and often you feel like you are going at it alone, isolated by your pain. Ouchie is a mobile platform that connects chronic pain patients with leading experts that assist you with the physical pain but also a supportive community to help process your pain – an often overlooked component of successful pain management. The app features several functions to manage your pain including real time pain tracking for which the data is shared between providers and patients as well as an integrated reward system for adherence and completing tasks. Already partnered with several leading organizations like Cornell Center for Pain Management and the U.S. Pain Foundation, Ouchie is redefining the patient experience when it comes to pain management.
AlleyWatch sat down with CEO and cofounder Rachel Trobman to learn more about Ouchie, how the company came about, and its future plans.
Tell us about Ouchie.
Ouchie is a mobile platform for pain management that helps clinicians help chronic pain patients through tracking, community and rewards for daily accomplishments.
How is Ouchie different?
Ouchie creates a partnership between the patients and the care providers with a unique set of tools aimed at improving adoption of non-opioid based treatment modalities.
What market does Ouchie attack and how big is it?
We’re targeting the nearly $70B pain management market.
What is the business model?
Ouchie licenses its product to medical centers, offers a white label version of its technology and has a premium version for patients.
What inspired the business?
I have dealt with chronic pain since my early 20s and grew up with family members with chronic health conditions. I saw that I had a great deal of resources that many did not have and then speaking to health care providers in the space, I learned many were facing incredible challenges helping their patients.
Your company recently participated in Peak Pitch. Would you tell us about your experience?
It was nice to get out of the office and into some fresh air alongside some fellow creative, tenacious entrepreneurs and to share the slopes with investors really interested in shaping young companies. I found the feedback the investors were giving to be frank and focused.
What are the milestones that you plan to achieve within six months?
Ouchie will raise a seed round and close a white label contract with a major medical system within six months.
If you could be put in touch with anyone in the New York community who would it be and why?
I would love to talk with the Oscar Health founders about building a consumer-friendly healthcare business that has to have a strong B2B focus and how they manage the branding and storytelling for both.
Why did you launch in New York?
My cofounder Jason and I have lived and worked in the city for 10+ years. I have been treated here and built deep ties into the healthcare community in NYC. Also, thanks to its prevalence of teaching hospitals, there are innovative health care providers interested in shaking up the status quo.
What’s your favorite restaurant in the city?
Veselka in the East Village. It’s not my favorite fancy place, but it’s the place I miss the most in between visits. There’s nothing more comforting than its grilled cheese and borscht, no matter what time of day.
