Symbi, the roommate matching service, has been acquired by Roomi, the dedicated marketplace for shared housing. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. “By joining forces with Roomi, our users can now tap into the broader Roomi ecosystem to find their perfect roommate match,” said Symbi cofounders Simone Kalmakis and Peter Kalmakis. “We have gotten to know Ajay and his team over the past few years, and are confident that the Symbi community is in good hands.” It does not appear that the Symbi team will be joining Roomi as this appears to be an asset sale.
Founded by Simone Kalmakis and Peter Kalmakis in 2014, Symbi has not raised any reported institutional financing. This marks the third recent acquisition for Roomi, which previously acquired NYC-based The Room Ring last year. “Acquiring Symbi enables Roomi to continue building a better product so millions can find a safer way to search for room rentals and compatible roommates,” said Ajay Yadav, CEO & Founder of Roomi.
