Viyet, the marketplace for vintage and antique furniture, has been acquired by Sotheby’s, the brokers for fine art, jewelery, antiques, real estate, and collectibles. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Viyet will continue to operate under its current brand at Sotheby’s with the entire team joining Sotheby’s and Viyet CEO, Elizabeth Brown remaining at the helm.
Founded by Elizabeth Brown, Louise Youngson-Klasfeld, and Rachel Rodin in 2012, Viyet had raised a total of $7.3M in funding over five funding rounds. Its backers include Social Starts, Compound, RiverPark Ventures, Rosecliff Ventures, Female Founders Fund, and Julie McDermott.
This is the second startup acquisition by Sotheby’s this year. The publicly traded company acquired Thread Genius just last month.
