Parcel, the last-mile delivery company, founded in 2013 by Jesse Kaplan has been acquired by Walmart. Terms of the deals were not disclosed although a Walmart representative mentioned in a blog post that this acquisition was less in value than recent acquisitions (Jet $3.3B, Bonobos $310M). The acquisition will allow Walmart to offer same delivery in New York City of both groceries and general merchandise. Parcel will continue to service its current clients and operate out of its Brooklyn headquarters for now.
Prior to the acquisition, Parcel, had raised $1.98M in funding over two rounds. Backers of the company include Archangel, Galvanize Ventures, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Interplay Ventures, Kevin W. Tung, Liberty City Ventures, and Techstars Ventures.
