Today, I take a look at the state of venture capital and angel funding during the all of October both in New York and nationally. Analyzing some publicly available data from our friends at CrunchBase, we break down the national aggregate statistics for all funding deals by stage of funding (Angel/Seed, Series A, Series B, and Series C+, as well as venture unspecified rounds less than $10M).

Quick takeaways on the NYC Venture Capital environment in October 2016:
Funding in NYC was down 52% from September levels as funding approached $500M for the month in NYC. September was a stellar month for NYC funding; hot off the summer lull, so a pullback to normalcy was to be expected. Nationally funding was down 36% percent as well. Early stage funding actually increased both nationally and in NYC and the decrease is largely attributable to a reduction in the number of latter stage deals.

Seed funding was up 64% in NYC in the month of October while the number of deals fell slightly, leading to a 73% increase in average seed round size in NYC. Nationally seed funding was was also up 46% from September levels while the number of deals increased slightly.
