SmartAsset, the financial analytics platform, has raised $12M in Series B funding from undisclosed investors. The company has now raised $22.53M over 4 rounds. We’ll have a full interview with the team this week on the funding.

DailyPay, the FinTech startup that provides next day payments, has raised $5M in Series A funding led by RPM Ventures with participation from Agilic Capital, Draper Frontier, Inspiration Ventures, and RPM Ventures. The company has raised $6.5M over their 2 rounds.
This week we took a look at the funding landscape in New York as well as nationally for the month of August – The August 2016 NYC Venture Capital and Angel Funding Report. There were a whopping 66 deals for a month that’s considered to be the slowest!
Cheddar, the video news network, has raised $10M in Series B funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with participation from Comcast Ventures and Ribbit Capital. Founder Jon Steinberg has raised $13M in 2 rounds of funding.
It was revealed that Howard Morgan, Partner at First Round Capital will be formally leaving the venture capital industry at the end of the year to focus on angel investing. Howard has been working with startups over the last 40 years in various capacities and is one the brilliant minds that has propelled the NYC startup ecosystem. Thank you Howard!
Away, the smart luggage company, has raised $8.5M in Series A funding led by Global Founders Capital with participation from Jaws Ventures, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Comcast Ventures, Accel Partners and Forerunner Ventures. Founders Stephanie Korey and Jen Rubio have now raised $11M for the company.
The science visualization team at the American Museum of Natural History was awarded over $6M from NASA to visualize the current exploration of the Cosmos. The project called OpenSpace will see the museum work on an open source platform to visualize dynamic data from NASA. This is some cool stuff! You can learn more about the project here.
Nuxeo, enabling developers to build, deploy and run content-centric apps, has raised a Venture round of $20M from Goldman Sachs for founder Stefane Fermigier’s sixth round of funding. The company has raised $39.86M to date.
SALIDO, the restaurant management platform, has raised $2M in Seed funding led by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Phil Suarez. The company has raised $4M over 2 rounds.
Congratulations to our friend David. S Rose, CEO of Gust and the Founder of the New York Angels, who received the Visionary Investor Award last week in recognition of his thirty year history of founding, supporting, inspiring, and investing in New York startups.
Fluent City, the startup helping people develop cultural skills, has raised $2.5M in a Venture round of funding led by Lerner Investments with participation from 1776, New Ground Ventures and Learn Capital. CEO James Rohrbach has now raised the company’s first round.
Beeswax, the programmatic adtech company, has raised $11M in Series A funding from undisclosed investors. This is the company’s second round of funding to date. We’ll have a full interview with the team this week on the funding.
Rocketrip, the platform on reducing corporate travel expenses, announced the hire of Drew Sechrist as the company’s Chief Revenue Officer. Sechrist, formerly of Salesforce, will focus on driving revenue growth, as the title implies, by focusing on customer acquisition and retention and expansion.
