Modern Meadow, the Brooklyn startup that is bioengineering leather, has raised a $40M Series B round led by Horizons Ventures and Iconiq Capital with participation from ARTIS Ventures and Temasek Holdings.

Crowded.com, the online marketplace for verified on demand and hourly workers, has raised a $3.3M seed round led by Takolan Ventures with participation from Hudson Ventures, ARC Angel Fund, and Gambit Ventures.
Flip, the online market place for leases, has raised a $1.2M seed round from investors that include BBG Ventures, v1 vc, Techstars Ventures, Joanne Wilson, Scott Belsky, and others.
AYR, an online marketplace for women’s clothing, has raised a $5.5M Venture round. Investors were not disclosed.
Laguardia Community College has received a $3.9M federal grant to train at-risk, disadvantaged youth for tech jobs. The grant is a part of TechHire, a $150 million White House and US Department of Labor initiative to train interested individuals in coding, software development, systems management, and other in-demand high-tech specialty areas.
Black Girls Code, the non-profit seeking to increase diversity within the tech ecosystem has established a new headquarters in Google’s NYC offices.

WeShelter, the leading non-profit platform powering civic engagement to end homelessness, announced a new initiative with Roomi, the New York-based real estate startup creating a peer-to-peer marketplace for finding shared housing. For every listing created on the site, Roomi will donate $5 to WeShelter, providing funding to local non-profits that work with the homeless.
