With so much going on in the city’s thriving ecosystem, it is easy to miss some of the happenings in the space. We keep you abreast of a few of things that you may have missed in NYC Tech this week including the fundings, exits, and events.

Vital, the startup that allows consumers to save on prescriptions by using big data has announced its $65M seed round.  The company has yet to publicly launch.

Techstars NYC alum, Spoon University, a food centric social network for millenials has announced a $2M seed.  Investors in the round include BBG Ventures, Ben Kosinski, BoxGroup, Howard Morgan, Joanne Wilson, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Marc Rothschild, Math Venture Partners, Paul Sethi, SoftTech VC and, Vayner/RSE. This round brings the company’s total funding to $2.5M.

Another Techstars NYC alum, DataCamp, the startup that provides an interactive data science and statistics learning platform has announced a $1M seed round.  The lead investor in the round was Chris Lynch, CFO of Sprinklr.  The company previously also participated in Startup Chile.

Invision, the design tool for the enterprise raised a $45M Series C round.  This round included participation from Jason Finger, Tiger Global Management, FirstMark Capital, and Accel Partners.  The company has now raised $80.2M across 5 rounds.

FanDuel, the leading fantasy sports sites announced a $275M Series E round, making it the latest entrant into the NYC unicorn club.   This latest round included funding from Piton Capital, Pentech Ventures, Bullpen Capital, Comcast Ventures, NBC Sports Ventures, Shamrock Capital Advisors, Time Warner Investments, Google Capital, and KKR.  FanDuel has raised $361.2M, across 7 rounds, since its founding in 2009.

NYC Big Apps kicked off its launch for 2015 with an excellent reception at Civic Hall.  The competition, which started in 2009, is focused onfour primary challenges that include Affordable Housing, Zero Waste, Connected Cities, and Civic Engagement.   NYC Big Apps is the largest civic challenge of its kind that brings together New Yorkers to deliver solutions to improve the city from now until early December. Learn more about how you can participate at NYC Big Apps.

NYC Tech Week in Review.008

Pager, the NYC startup that is bringing on demand housecalls from doctors back via your mobile phone announced a $14M series A round.  Investors in this round included Ashton Kutcher and New Enterprise Associates.  The startup has now raised $24.4M across 3 rounds since its founding in May of 2014.

AnyClip Media, the search engine for video clips has announced a $21M round from an impressive roster of investors that include GTI Capital, Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP), Limelight Networks, and Roman Abramovich.

Congrats to Murat Aktihanoglu and the ER team for its 7th year anniversary of the Entrepreneurs Roundtable event series. This month’s featured speaker was Phil Neches, Founder of Teradata.

A busy week for Techstars NYC alums as 2013 graduate, Plated, the gourmet meal recipe and ingredient delivery service announced a $35M series B round.  Investors in this round include Formation 8, Greycroft Partners.  The company has now raised $56.4M across 5 rounds since its founding in 2012.

WayBetter, developers of DietBet, an incentivized gamification platform for weight loss has announced a $9.3M funding round.  Investors in this round include Loeb Enterprises, Kima Ventures, Sparx Ventures, and RiverPark Ventures.  The company has now raised $14.1M across 4 rounds since its founding in 2011.

VTS, the commercial real estate tech startup that created a platform to simplify the process of leasing through the use of visual tools has raised a $21M Series B round from Trinity Ventures and OpenView Venture Partners.  The company has now raised $32M across 4 rounds since its founding in 2011.

Freshly, the gourmet meal delivery platform has announced a $7M Series A round.  The company was founded in Phoneix Arizona but with this injection of capital is moving to New York.  This round was funded by White Star Capital and Highland Capital Partners.  Freshly has now raised $9M across 2 rounds since its found in 2012.

StellaService, the customer service measurement platform for online retaiers has announced a $15M Series C round. Investors in this round include RRE Ventures, Gotham Ventures, Battery Ventures, Toba Capital, Novel TMT Ventures, Comcast Ventures, and Norwest Venture Partners. The company has now raised $38.9M, across 6 rounds, since its founding in 2009.


NYC Tech Week in Review.016

AngelPad, NYC alum, Arthena has announced its seed funding which was in excess of $1M.  The round was financed by Beamonte Investments, Foundation Capital, Aslanoba Capital, C15 Ventures, and 2020 Ventures.

Arthena is the first crowdfunding platform for fine arts and was founded in late 2013.

General Assembly cofounder Brad Hargreaves latest venture, Common, the NYC startup that aims to create shared living spaces similar to cojworkgin spaces announced a $7.4M Series A round.  The funding for this round was provided by 500 Startups, Slow Ventures, Lowercase Capital, and Maveron.
