It’s no secret that college students and recent grads are not having an easy time of finding work. Having some work experience by the time you graduate certainly helps, but students’ schedules can be a bit wonky, which doesn’t help when you’re looking for work.
Enter Jozii, a .EDU-exclusive college jobs matching service – and a comprehensive source for matching students and employers, by providing an easy-to-use platform for both the student and employer to find the right fit.
But don’t think that post-grads and recent grads need not apply. There are internships and part-time and full-time spots available to them, too.
Besides the usual profile, there’s a customizable profile option so that applicants can also provide a video and potential employers can get a sense of the person that doesn’t come across in words alone.
With more to come.
Cofounders – and fairly recent grads – Brandon Maier and AJ Smith fill in the blanks.
Tell us about the service.
Jozii is an online platform connecting students, recent alums and employers. The service is cost efficient for employers increasing the likelihood for them to post internships, part-time and full time positions. By creating a .edu exclusive membership service, Jozii seeks to transform the college job market making it simple for students to find jobs and employers to find student workers.
How is it different?
Jozii targets the major problem that students and post grads face: finding a job that fits their life. On Jozii.com, students are able to search for jobs that are exactly what they are looking for, whether it is a particular industry or time commitment. Additionally, students are able to bypass the tedious search and application process through the quick apply feature. Jozii saves time, eliminates overqualified competition and creates a direct line of communication between the student and the employer.
What market are you attacking and how big is it?
College students and recent post graduates. We are starting in NYC and LA, but plan to expand to all colleges and cities across the United States.
Why did you decide to focus on the higher education market and will you expand to other portions of the job market?
We found there was a need among students, when dealing with the job market. Many faced difficulties finding work and internships, therefore, they lacked the necessary skills and job experience to enter the workplace, post college. Our next step would be to place a larger focus on the post graduation entry-level job market.
What are the milestones that you plan to achieve within six months?
Jozii plans to add an additional 15,000 students, 3,000 businesses and expand to the west coast. Furthermore, to increase efficiency, we are developing an app for the iPhone and Android devices that will give students access to job postings on-the-go.
If you could be put in touch with one investor in the New York community who would it be and why?
Pete Cashmore. Similar to us, he saw a need in the market and capitalized by fulfilling it. Mashable is one of our top news sites and to start just a successful business at such a young age is truly an inspiration.
Why did you launch in New York?
New York is our home. It also happens to have a large network of college campuses and students who need to supplement living in NYC by working a part-time job or internship. Both the founders, Brandon and AJ are NYU alumni who experienced first hand the living on a student budget in NYC.
What’s your favorite destination in NYC?
Walking around the West Village and eating at the Gansevoort Market. Tacombi tacos are hard to turn down.
