William Porteous is a General Partner with RRE Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm based in New York City. Porteous focuses largely on early-stage investments in technology; more singularly, he hones in on enterprise, consumer media, digital media and mobile technology. He joined the firm in 2000 initially as an Associate and soon became a Principal before becoming a General Partner.
Before his involvement in venture capital, Porteous held senior management positions in marketing and product management with both NetMarket and SupplyWorks. He is also Director to a number of notable companies, including Buzzfeed, Data Robotics, HowAboutWe, Peek, Skyhook Wireless and Xobni. He was also formerly a Director of Frictionless Commerce (acquired by SAP) and Tacit Networks (acquired by PKTR). He is active involved in the firm’s investments in Ember and PrimeRevenue.
In addition, Porteous serves as Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia Business School, and is a director of the Software Division of the Software and Information Industry Association. He is also the co-founder and Chairman of the Dockery Farms Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing the historic location and heritage of Dockery Farms.
Porteous earned his MBA from Harvard University and his MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He earned his BA at Stanford University, graduating with Honors.
