Twenty-seven companies representing 10 countries and nine cities from around the US. Eleven of them have at least one woman on the founding team. Those are the stats from 500 Startups Batch 9, the latest class of startups who headed out to Mountainview to participate in the summer program. There’s no doubt that accelerator casts a wide net in terms of verticals, which range from financial services & fashion, search/social/mobile, personal & business productivity, education & language, family & healthcare. This latest class includes five Bitcoin startups. But wait! There’s more! No less than four are of the companies are from New York – three from New York City. And AlleyWatch has already spotlighted two of them.

AbbeyPost

AbbeyPost has created a line of beautiful, affordable, fully custom clothing at a price point similar to what you’d pay at Macy’s or Bloomingdales for a mass-manufactured item.  The company’s innovative real-time-manufacturing processes and advanced technologies help offer fully custom Made to Measure apparel at department store prices, delivered in 2 weeks or less. There are over 70 million plus size women in the United States, and before AbbeyPost, shopping sucked for them.

Founder Cynthia Schames has created a place where women of all shapes and sizes can enjoy a highly personal shopping experience, and find the right fit the first time!

Sourceasy is a wholesale procurement/sourcing/manufacturing service that not only allows you to buy small quantities of apparel/home furnishings with custom labels, but also manufactures, packs it, and delivers it to your doorstep. All via technology tools that manage sourcing along and offline support to complete the orders.

Thinknum

Thinknum is a web platform for financial analysis that indexes the world’s financial information by enabling investors to collaborate on financial analyses, aggregating the abundant financial data and insights out there and presenting it to users in an intuitive format. Collaborate on investment research with users from around the world.

This Rochester-based startup enables reputation, trust and fraud prevention for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Ratings-based and community-driven, businesses and users are scored based on their transaction ratings and optional identity. Scores are accessible via wallets, Bonafide.io’s site, mobile app, Chrome extension, or API.
